YOUR TIP FOR JUNE 29, 2012

Show the self-purchaser it’s OK to buy.

WHY? Sometimes she just needs a bit of encouragement and a few comparisons.

HOW?  Eileen Alexanian of Diamonds ’n’ Dunes in Manteo, NC, give suggestions for an example $500 item: “I’ll remind her that if she really likes at and will enjoy wearing it, it will pay for itself every time she puts it on. I mean, I go out and look at designer hats or bags, and I’m amazed at the prices of these things. Women will buy themselves a $600 dress that lasts for one season, so why not a piece of jewelry that lasts forever?”

YOUR TIP FOR JUNE 28, 2012

Categorize your contacts.

WHY? Because different customers need to be contacted at different times for different reasons.

HOW? Your A-List should hear from you personally and frequently. Send them special gifts, flowers, theater tickets or dinner certificates. Your B-List should hear from you personally six times a year and receive holiday and premium gifts. Touch base with your C-List quarterly and with a holiday card in December.

Incentivise keeping neat and staying clean

YOUR TIP FOR JUNE 25, 2012

Reward cleanliness.

WHY? If you want a cleaner store all the time, incentivise keeping neat and staying clean.

HOW? Place little colored stickers around your store, concentrating on obscure corners, nooks and crannies. Any employee who collects a sticker and brings it to you gets points. More points, bigger rewards. And/or: Place rewards, gift certificates, even cash in areas of clutter around your store.

Create a shrine to inspiration

HomeShine TimesBlogsNewsLatest IssueCommunity

YOUR TIP FOR JUNE 27, 2012

Create a shrine.

WHY? You need a bit of personal space, a place to escape to and a place that might inspire you.

HOW? Jim Krause, author of Creative Spark, suggests creating a small “personal shrine” in your office. Include things that are important and relevant to you — a book that taught you something, a few trinkets, a picture or two (of family or happy customers) and anything else that inspires you.
