Thanks for the Moments

Thanks for sharing our diamond moment with everyone. What a great feature, complete with tears. (InDiamonds, INSTORE, June 2010)

Stand Up to Fees

I feel a clarification should be made regarding an item in May Know It All titled “Credit Card Fines Still Bite Small Businesses.” When one signs up for a business credit card, there is a credit limit imposed by the issuer and accepted by the card carrier. I have, on a couple of occasions, gone over my limit on my card and been assessed a fee. I contacted the company and told them that allowing me to go even 1 cent over my limit was a breach of the contract I had signed and insisted the charges be removed. On each occasion, the over-limit charges were removed. Jewelers who roll over and pay these fees need to wake up and smell the coffee. — Gary Youngberg, Ames Silversmithing, Ames, IA

And Never the Twain Shall Meet

I am tired of reps trying to sell the “lemming trends” that the people on the East Coast follow so readily. Reps need to know that by the time trends get to the West Coast, they are on the second half of the bell curve, and they are reaching a much less trend-driven market, where people much prefer “made-just-for-me because I’m an individual” jewelry. — Elizabeth Breon, Coast Jewelers, Florence, OR

No Respect

David Geller doesn’t seem to have control of his emotions (“Dear Critic, You’re the Real Nut Case,” INSTORE, May 2010). He must respect others’ opinions even though they may contradict his own. I happen to agree with him. However, the world is full of losers, and I believe they have a right to lose.  — John Anthony, John Anthony Jewellers, Kitchener, ON
