Short Version:
I created an online survey for WOMEN ONLY...to help us help men who are on the hunt for an engagement ring. I invite you to send the link to all YOUR customers...so we have some good solid numbers to work with. Here's the link...just cut and paste in your email blast...with the subject: FOR WOMEN ONLY.

Be sure to email me or comment below and let me know if you're going to participate. Yes, I'm paying for it. No, I won't have any information about who is completing the survey. It's completely anonymous.
Long Version:
I know...surveys are everywhere and getting tiresome. I take some...toss others...and have been known to throw a few at my customers. This one is different.
What's so different?
It's completely unscientific but honest...something that seems to resonate with today's consumer. (The honesty part. It's called transparencey...and I love it.)
I set up an online survey for WOMEN ONLY...to help the men who love them. Ultimately I want us (indenpendent jewelers) to help those poor guys who are scared out of their wits. They're afraid they're going to pay a bunch of money for a ring she won't like. I believe this will help.
The description on the form reads like this:
Dazed and confused. That's how most guys feel when it's time to buy an engagement ring. Please help them out by answering a few simple questions. No one likes to see a grown man cry ;-)
I sent an initial survey out to my customer base and got a 12% response rate...which isn't chicken feed. I even learned a thing or 2...and my staff is blown away by the results. Here's one of them:
- Only 1% of the women would prefer he buy her ring online. We suspected that...but it's nice to have a real number to verify our suspicions.
Hmmm...I wonder if knowing that gives a salesperson a bit of live ammunition at the case?
Rather than horde this information I think it would be better if we had a much larger cross section of women. Which is why I'm inviting you to do the same.
Send it to YOUR female customers!
I don't want to get all salesy. If you want to participate just paste the following link in an email blast to your customer list. Make the subject line reads FOR WOMEN ONLY and give them a brief description about the survey...or just copy my description above and use it in the body of your email.

That's it. I'll keep it open for the next 2 weeks...tabulate the results...and publish the results to those that participate. (Unless David S. has a better idea.) Drop me an email and let me know you're hooking up. I do not have the energy or desire to find out what jewelers customers are taking the survey. It's completely anonymous.
Why are you doing this?
Because independent retailers are the best place to buy jewelry...period. We should be working with each other to make sure that message makes it into the marketplace...with an exclamation point! "As the ocean rises...everybody's boat goes up."
