George Press Fine Jewelers of Livingston, NJ, (the subject of an upcoming Best of the Best feature in the May 2012 issue of Instore) decided to demonstrate pride in New Jersey with the New Jersey Has Charm contest last year. It was so popular they will likely do it again.
In the process they showcased their custom design service and energized their Facebook fan page, making it truly interactive for the first time.
George and Cheryl Press brainstormed with PR firm, the Hip Event, to come up with the idea. The contest was intended to inspire people to create a wearable symbol of what they love about New Jersey.
The top five designs submitted were posted to Facebook for voting. The winning design was made into a charm.
George Press selected the winner, based on the design concept and the practicality of creating the charm. Peiran Xu of Teaneck, NJ, produced the winning design, a sterling charm with an amethyst in its center, surrounded by diamonds. It’s a charm within a charm – the state flower, a violent, nestled inside an abstract NJ.
“We were so pleased that there was such an interest in this contest,” George says. “We really wanted to do something positive for the state that we and so many others love; we were happy to create a beautiful piece of jewelry to reflect the beauty of New Jersey.”
I noticed that George Press also has an interesting website that includes a video gallery and an informative blog about jewelry fashion trends — See http://georgepress.com/blog/.
