Bridal Unveiled

It was a big weekend for engaging news as designers and celebrities both wowed us with vows. Almost concurrently with bridal gowns hitting the runways in New York, the news of Brad and Angelina's engagement appeared all over TV, newspapers, blogs, FB and Twitter.

Bridal has been a burgeoning category for jewelry designers due to creativity in new/old cuts, natural colored diamonds and an eye on celebrities and royalty. In 2010, the blue sapphire made a comeback among both jewelers and their customers for popping the question after Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his mother, Princess Diana's famous engagement ring.

The new elongated tablet cut ring with smaller tapering side stones that Brad Pitt designed in collaboration with Robert Procop, the Beverly Hills jeweler (who designed a collection inspired by Angelina Jolie) is sure to have a similar effect on bridal business.

The ring has a contemporary deco feeling as did many of the sheath styles on the runway which called for streamlined emerald and other step cut diamonds rings or those with a more geometric feeling.

Intricate lace overlays with higher necklines for simple body skimming gowns were also popular among wedding fashions this season and are the perfect accents to cluster diamond rings and filigree or cut out imperial looking rings.

Angelina Jolie's engagement ring from Brad Pitt:

Those that make a beautiful pair include: Monica Lhuillier's lace top gown with Megan Thorne's mosaic cluster rings; Amisale's sheath with Ivanka Trump Jewelry's Emerald center and baguette cut platinum ring; Christos lace top gown with Erica Courtney's Juliette oval diamond ring with scroll and filiagree work; Carolina Herrera's '40s style gown with Kamofie's vintage white gold and platinum engagment rings; Reem Acra's shimmering A-line style with Dawes Design's opaque rectangle diamond ring.
