Collected Concepts CEO Nick Failla offered 10 considerations about a store website:
- The look: Find 5 sites you like and 5 you don’t
- Content management system: You need to be able to make simple changes and updates to the site yourself.
- Copy: Must be engaging, succinct and targeted; utilize the “Learn More” button when going into depth.
- Easy navigation: consistent, obvious, minimal and clear; five to seven items across the top menus.
- Photos and videos: Don’t worry about video quality. A Youtube-quality video testimonial will be seen as more authentic than a professionally produced video.
- Active communication: e-mail, blog, live chat, redirect to social media.
- Data capture: Get people’s e-mail addresses, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
- Browser compatibility: Must be compatible with all major browsers.
- Speed: Get rid of Flash.
- Search engine optimization: Hire a professional service for this.
