Customization, one-of-a-kind and limited editions continue to become the buzzwords in the fine jewelry market with more and more retailers bringing in one-off high ticket items, styles that revolve around unusual stone cuts and colors and antique or period pieces. We also saw diamond headbands grace the awards presentations and a return to Hollywood glamour in it's heyday at the MET's Costume Institute Gala.

On Sunday May 27, 2012, a New York Times Styles Section article reports on the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which began this past weekend. The article also talks about the state of the royal jewels and mentions the Buckingham Palace exhibit beginning in June and a new book focusing on the iconic grandeur and elegance of the pieces of England's monarchy.

While there has been talk about uncertainty in the fine jewelry market due to a number of issues, these events, styles and trends speak to a more upbeat and positive outlook and can provide inspiration for designs as well as display ideas as the industry begin thinking about holiday 2012 season.
