(Press Release) The Metro watch from NOMOS Glashütte has received the Green Product Award in Berlin.

The timepiece, designed by Mark Braun, won over the jury with its climate-friendly production, innovative technical features, and, as one judge put it, “example-setting durability.”

Metro is not merely a ‘lifestyle product’ but rather a watch of timeless beauty, crafted to last a lifetime -- and even longer.

Produced regionally, with high-quality working conditions, NOMOS Glashütte has also been a certified ‘Ecoprofit business’ since 2013, and produces up to 95 percent of every caliber on-site.

“We always try to work in a way that ensures fine watches for today, and a better future for tomorrow,” says Judith Borowski, Head of Branding and Design at NOMOS Glashütte. She adds, “We are simply overjoyed with this award.”

Metro also scored points from a technical point-of-view, as the timepiece is the first to be equipped with an in-house escapement, the NOMOS swing system.

This pace-setting part of a caliber is decisive for the accuracy, robustness, and durability of a watch, and its introduction in 2014 was a declaration of independence for NOMOS Glashütte, since it broke the Swiss monopoly on producing this watchmaking part.

The Green Product Award celebrates products that unite high-quality design with technical innovation and sustainable production processes.

Over 400 entries from over 21 countries (from an eco-toothbrush to sound-proofing made from bioplastic) competed in 2015. An expert panel from the fields of science and industry, including Daimler and the Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsförderung (Institute for Ecological Economic Development), then curated a “Green Selection” of the top 100 submissions for the final public vote.
