Thieves made off with $400,000 worth of diamonds in a highway robbery in Seattle, police said.

The driver was on Interstate 5 just before 4 p.m. Tuesday en route to see a jeweler-client, the Seattle Times reports, citing the Washington State Patrol.

A sedan changed lanes quickly, causing the driver to hit the brakes. Another car then rear-ended the driver on purpose, the newspaper reports.

Police said two men wearing bandanas got out and took from the driver a bag that contained $400,000 in diamonds.

It's not the first time this type of theft has happened in the area.

In October 2016, diamonds worth about $400,000 were taken from couriers during a highway robbery in SeaTac, near Seattle. The thieves reportedly “boxed in a diamond couriers’ car on an Interstate 5 onramp, held the driver at gunpoint” and taken a backpack containing the jewels, the Seattle Times reported at the time.
